I was surfing the web for information about Amtrak and I stumbled upon pictures of American Loco Company (Alco) RS1, RS3, S2, and PA1 types that served the passenger railroad all the way until Phase Three. I know that some of the older switchers that made it to Phase Three had there Alco engines removed for 12 cylinder Prime Movers from EMD, but does anyone else know more info about the locomotives, and does anyone know here I can buy a three rail O-scale Amtrak Alco?

When purged from Amtrak, I believe an Rs1 and some Rs3's went to the Tioga Central RR which later moved to pa somewhere.

Thank you.
I'll use this knowledge to my advance in the history of the Amtrak Alcos.

Indeed, Amtrak 47 and Amtrak 62 where sent to Tioga and now server there as excursion engines. Both are Road-Switcher-1s.
I don't think any Alco PAs lasted in to Amtrak. I have never seen photos or mention of them. I know they had RS1s and I guess some switchers , S1 or S2 it looks like. I was also not aware that they had any RS3s or RS2s.

Aparantley there was a rumor that Alco PA1s from the D&H served Amtrak for a week or so until they where scraped for being unreliable. The time they served was so short they where never documented on any papers or such.

The D&H former Santa Fe Alco PA units were NOT sold for scrap, but sold to the Mexican Government Railroads, and ran for quite some years down there.

I think mine is an older Lionel...

Wow, very good model and locomtive. However I must pin tout that the second picture is not the same as it was an Alco after it was converted to use a EMD engine, which is why there is a large hump on the long hood of the loco. And, what year is it and does it have railsounds?
John, I think it is a Lionel, no sound...
there is one like mine on the bay right now...
looks a little rough though...

Thank you, to be honest I'll probably buy a black NYC, PRR, or PC RS and decal and weather it to look similar to a Alco used in Phase 1 MOW, or I may buy the Alco shown and kitbashmit to put the hump on for the GM engine the later models had, thank you!

And two of them have been repatriated. One is owned by Doyle McCormack and is being recreated as NKP 190, the other is at the Museum of the American Railroad in Frisco, Texas being restored back to Santa Fe 59.

Indeed, however the restoration of the ATSF engine isn't going as well as the NKPs, as the 190 is now officially the only PA1 running in the country, whil the handful of leftovers from the D&H are still getting out together her and there over the contry.
I have a black PC RS w/ Legacy if you’re interested.

Hmm, which RS is it and does it have sound, smoke, and is it compartía le with TMCC?
6-38453 RS-11 sound and smoke. Legacy engines are what replaced TMCC engines.
At least one Amtrak RS3 ended up at the Lamoille Valley Railroad. It was used as a parts source. I saw what was left of it sitting in Morrisville, Vt. in the mid 80's.

Sorry, I'm looking for a 1 or 3, Amtrak didn't own 11s.

Indeed, they owned two Ex Amtrak RS3s that where both scrapped in 1995.

There's an Atlas O RS 1 or 3 version with TMCC, sound and smoke, however, not in Amtrak livery. I have this one with a custom paint job in Washington Terminal Co. #63, the switching RR that served Union Station in DC in pre - Amtrak days.

That's very interesting since the Washington terminal rs1s where all taken into Amtrak so that would be cool in a patch. Hmm, is there a black PRR, NYC, or Pc paint scheme?"

Don't know about the paint scheme in the roads you inquired about, however, I am now remembering that Atlas O actually released RS 1's in Washington Terminal Co. livery ( back around 2005 - 6 ? ) And yes WTC RS 1s were painted in Amtrak livery several years after Amtrak's takeover. I used to see the WTC RS 1's all the time during the early 1980s, at the Ivy City engine facility which parallels New York Ave in Washington. I used this route to get to work in and out of DC almost daily.

Interesting, very interesting. Yeah and if I'm correct wasn't one of the Alcos sent to BR&W after its service on Amtrak? Where it served for a few years until it was replaced with Ex ATSF CP7s.
The Lionel engine RS-3 is from the 1992 Amtrak work train set.
It just has a horn.
Didn't lionel put out an RS1 or RS3 legacy? You could convert that to amtrak.

Yeah I heard a bit that locomotive. My good friend had one and he sold,it to a guy who tried to covert it to TMCC, aparantley it was a large pain in his rear to get it conceited to the chip he had.

Yes, I'm looking for one on the cheaper side. At this point I may just buy an Amtrak Alco from the later 20th century, and take the shell from it and put it on a frame with modern equipment and such.

I don't know where the RS1's went after they left Amtrak's Ivy City facility. Toward the end of their time with Amtrak, I recall seeing them parked way north on a siding within the facility. I do remember when the CP7s arrived. I believe they were ex Santa Fe units. They of course were repainted to Amtrak colors. Once Amtrak changed all of the WTC locomotives to Amtrak color scheme, one end cab switcher was left in the WTC livery. I think the idea was to pay tribute to the Washington Terminal Co. and their employees who actually switched/serviced Union Station and surrounding industry such as the U.S. Government Printing Office since the beginning of Union Station. WTC was actually formed by and jointly owned by the B&O and the Pennsylvania Railroad companies.
this one is by Weaver...

Amtrak also just recently restored one of their Washington DC EMD yard switchers in a "Washington Terminal" heritage scheme and dedicated to long-time employee Pete Grosso. Now the "Spirit of Pete Grosso"

Interesting, however I'd like one that isn't mTH so I don't have to upgrade it to Dcs, I'd much rather get another type and use tmcc when I upgrade. Thank you though for looking!
I wish MTH would do a Proto 3 RS-1 in Amtrak livery! I love the Spokane, Portland & Seattle I have.
