My Cab II remote oprates my layout, BUT it will not shut off without removing a battery!

 

When I push the off ctc button, the writing on the display disappears, but the green background light remains on.  The light will no go out until I remove a battery.

 

Lionel told me to send it in, but it will take a MONTH to get back......that's too long.

 

They also told me to loosen the screws on the back of the handheld because sometimes this will 'resolve the issue.' It didn't.

 

Is anyone familiar with this defect and are there any suggestions as to how I can fix this?  I don't want to lose my remote for 4 weeks.

I think others have reported the CTC button sticking somehow and causing a similar problem, but that was probably why they had you try loosening the screws? Maybe someone that has fixed theirs will something else for you to try? Not much help, but I can tell you they are serious about the 4 weeks, mine has been there for 3 weeks and I have not heard a word on it so far. Different problem though, mine wouldn't take the update to 1.53, Lionel tech at my LHS even tried it, no luck there either.     Marty is absolutely correct, I just mailed mine back for a similar problem, if you are a Military Veteran, contact Lionel on the phone and one of the Lionel ladies will e-mail you the pre-paid shipment sticker for your complete Legacy 990 unit.  I waited till I took our Christmas layout down, to send mine into Lionel.  I have been hearing the actual turn around time is much shorter than most people think.

I am not sure if I am going to send it back or just keep removing/replacing the battery for off/on.  Everything else works fine with the remote, and the remote actually turns on/off faster with just taking a battery out.

 

In reading other posts about this issue, it seems this is a major problem and Lionel is sending some remotes back that are refurbished....I.E. not the original one the customer's purchased.

 

Plus, I will have to completely reprogram the remote.....Engine ID's, Switches, Routes, Accessories, etc.  I have so much programmed right now, it will take a few hours to get to the point where I am at now.

 

I think I'll just keep things the way they are. If the remote breaks any further I'll send it back at that time, or just buy another one. Hopefully it lasts through the year.

 

I do know I have had so many other problems with the Lionel peripherals.  Out of 10 CC switches, 4 were defective (at different times) and had to be returned. My FasTrack has been another issue all together...I've had tracks arrive without the connector pins.  10" straights and 5" straights have had conductivity issues. My Lionel motorized wind turbine is so noisy, it overshadows the trains. I am seriously questioning the quality control of some of this stuff coming out of China.

 

I wish I had known of this forum prior to purchasing $1,100 worth of Fastrack and CC switches. Next year I plan on ridding myself of all Lionel peripherals, and building a new layout with Gargraves and Ross.  I'll keep the Lionel ZW-L and the Legacy engines (so far they are awesome), but everything else will go.

 

But, live and learn, and next year will be exciting with some new components.

This is incorrect.  The base, not the remote holds everything but recordings.  Even if you do send back the base, doing a database copy using the LSU software, will ensure that you will not have to reload it one at a time.

That 2 weeks was only valid until I sent mine, now it's much longer.   Wait 'til mine comes back and maybe they will go back to 2 weeks turn around time. I think they somehow knew mine was going to break...I'm a lucky guy.  On the brighter side, at least it was still under warranty and they are fixing it.

Lionel wants me to send in the base and remote, and said they may or may not reset everything.
