First off, it appears that the new Lionel ES44AC's are going to be incorrect and are pretty much going to be duplicates of the NS heritage units. Well I thought: Why not buy one of the new units and then buy the shell of the heritage unit of your choice. Has anyone else thought of this? Would it work? If it will, then I might be in for the the PRR, LV, or NKP.

Do it at the beach and you would be changing shells by the seashore. This would be
especially appropriate if it involved the New Haven.
Not helpful, for sure.
But this would certainly be an easy thing to do, provided you stick to the same brand
(can be done otherwise, it then just becomes scratch bashing) and if you can find the shell. By the seashore. Sorry.
Where are you going to get the shells?
As far as I know, Lionel will not sell shells without returning a damaged / defective one of the same exact item.
