Atlas O 0-6-0 Steam Switcher Questions - and Learning

My Atlas 0-6-0 steam switcher had been running well for years but recently the sounds began to drop out on the curved path of my Atlas O-54 switches, so I purchased a 9-volt alkaline battery to see if that would help. I removed the tender shell and connected the battery to the 9V connector but there was no room to install the battery anywhere that I could find - even at the top of the tender beneath the coal load. A poor design in my opinion. It's a nice model but the tether has also been a nuisance.

My YLB - RailSounds Battery Replacement is considerably thinner than a standard 9V battery, it may fit where the battery wouldn't.

Is it just a plug-in to the 9V battery connector? If so, I'm going to order one. If it doesn't fit here, I'll use it in another locomotive.

Yep, it plugs into the battery connector, and the single wire connects to the center track power.  This is a permanent battery, you never have to replace it.
