Boxing up Christmas Layout till the Fall

This may be a duplicate post - had some funnies with the first.

Alas, I will be taking up and boxing my living room floor Christmas layout till the fall. I will be leaving the South and heading back North in a few months and taking the layout with me. I have 2 legacy locomotives with their refers and Polar Express cars. I will be using their original boxes and wrappings.

Any tips for their storage? Should I give a final dose to their smoke units?
