I picked up a Coors Silver Bullet reefer car and was wondering if the effects can be operated on its own, similar to some of the other popular MTH reefers. I have the instruction sheet, which looks like it mentions the engine in a sequence of some sort. i was just wondering if this is a 'stand alone' item. I don't have DCS yet but if they make all of these nice features, I may dip in. thanks.

You have to have the engine to operate any of the car's they get the single from it .

No you need the engine but it doesn't need to be coupled to the cars, just on the same track.
Actually the instructions with the train say the cars should be within 8 feet of track.
And Guy is correct, you must have the engine, it controls the cars.
The cars have no conventional method of operation on their own.
I run a set with 4 regular reefers and the tail car (also a reefer), it's really cool.
Now, if you got a deal on the car and want to pass it on vs buying the set (only way to get the engine), drop me an email.
Personally, I'd get the set, its a crowd pleaser.
