I am having trouble with the spacings (or lack of) between the red and black wires where they screw into the trucks on diesels.  Am I the only one with this problem?

At 3.6V I get a short, either or both trucks are the culprits.  If I disconnect the red and black or just the red wire from the trucks and connect that directly to the red terminal out of the TIU the short disappears and I get the watchdog signal and locos operate fine.  However, you can not run like this.

Is there an alternate way to mount the red wires to the center rail pickup?

Should I run a heavier gauge wire?

Also seems that the 24 or less gauge wire has very thin insulation so they short out.

Any suggestions?
