I don't know if others here do what I have done in the past - get a package containing something train related and actually having to put it aside and not open it because you were too busy.  I almost did that today because I didn't really have time to play with my new car but I listened to my little voice and took it out to run on a couple of laps around the test loop.  It was a good thing I did because I found out that one of the couplers is defective.  So back it goes.

I'm not writing this to slam any particular store or manufacturer or get into a big rant about declining quality, yadda yadda yadda.  The reason I am writing this is to encourage you to check out thoroughly your new purchases before having to put them on the shelf and getting back to work.  If you don't, you will be far more likely to have to pay for a repair (if it can be repaired) or replacement (if you can even get one) yourself.

I went a little crazy last Sunday night on ebay, and won 11 auctions from Trainz. Two big boxes were on the front porch this afternoon. Opened them up and did a head count. Yup 11. Not so fast. I didn't win that Rock boxcar. I won a Rail Box boxcar. Both cars were from Lionel and had consecutive catalog numbers. Oops!

So, which one of you guys has MY Rail Box?

You kidding me Eric? I normally have the box halfway opened before I finish signing for it!

And here was the other expected category of response...    I hear ya.  Sometimes though I do get so busy that I am sorely tempted to defer unpacking.  Then One thing or another comes up and BAM...  several weeks have gone by.

@Jumijo: Farmer Bill beat ya to it this time!

Doesn't opening the box for inspection violate the first rule of selling used at full or greater than 100% retail value?
E.g. new in box with original factory tape. Price: 10 thousand more than I paid.

P.S. all was good last time I turned and coughed. I am due for a check up. Boys, don't let it slide. Go get checked!
Sincerely....
