Hello: a question about MTH Railking trackside signals. How close to scale are they? I am considering purchasing them but do not want them towering 20 feet above the trains.
Melvin, if the signals you are looking have dimensions as to how high they are then using 1/4 inch equals a foot divide the height by 4 and that will give you the approximate scale height............Paul

Thanks gang.
A common problem for operators like yourself that wish to have a more realistic looking layout. Several years ago Lionel ran a line of railroad signals called Mainline signals. They were close to scale size and better looking than the giant P/W signals. I purchased about 25 and are slowly trying to find places on the layout for them. They had crossing signals, block signals, target signals, scale banjo signals etc. MTH has also offered both the P/W and near scale size. Both can still be found. What bothers me the most is the Lionel gateman that is like 16 scale feet high, almost as tall as some locos. Sure wish that I could find a replacement gateman that's scale size. I enjoy adding workable signals and animation like the switching and control towers that have scale size figures
I use the Z-Stuff for trains signals. Scale sized with built in detectors. I like the two wire hook up as I'm lazy. No extra relay/detector to hook up.
