Ok guys ... first posting here on this website.  I have been lurking around learning lots, but I have a question about my MTH locos.

I have 4 MTH PS2 locos (all new purchases in the last year or so).  At startup (running DCS with Rev L TIU), three of the four engines make a 'humming' noise and the noise continues until shut down.  One routinely starts up in stealth mode and is silent.  All engines operate normally, but I am pretty sure they all should be able to be started up in the stealth mode.  Are the engines starting up in conventional mode?? I am running everything through the fixed 1 input with a Z1000 power source.

What can I do (if anything) to get the engines to operate without 'humming?'

Sorry for this basic question guys, but I really want to know.  I did a search on the website and looked through months of postings and couldn't find a similar thread.

Thanks in advance.

You'll definitely want to keep that smoke unit turned off unless you are using the smoke feature.  I routinely keep it turned off to avoid burning out the smoke unit, and only use the smoke feature when I have visitors or want to fill the room with a cloud.

I describe the smoke unit fan noise as more of a high-pitched whirring sound rather than a hum, but just about any definition will work and you'll immediately notice the difference when you hit the "smoke" button on the remote.
