Removing yourself from topic alerts

Can you remove yourself from specific topic alerts?  Ones that you have lost interest in, but keep getting alerts of a new posting.  If so how, can't figure it out.

Open the topic.  Toward the top right (next to title) there is a bell.  If red you are getting, if blue not.  Click in the bell to toggle it.  BTW if you reply to a topic, (the way I have things set?) it will automatically add you (turn bell red).
