Now QUESTION. do I try too fine a place where they fix engines,(Oh yes they are engines from sets.) or do I look up hobby shop where they sell engines for maybe $150.- or less.Again thank you for answering me. Sonny, post the model numbers of the locos. Then forumites will know what type of PS board they have and can go from there. Also would help if you describe the conditions in detail.
RJR, you always answer me right away, an always with good answers. I will try to fine the numbers, etc. But what was that forumites.? Sonny
Formites are us on the forum
did they all stop at once or did they stop over time?
sonny,
Slow down a might and give us a little more information, are these old P1 engines, P2 engines, or TMCC engines. Are you running DCS and is everything set up correctly.
PCRR/Dave
is this for real?-jim
Yes, this is for real. Check Sonny's posts and see what he has built. He is running DCS with I believe 1, maybe 2 Lionel TMCC engines.
An octogenarian pushing 90, his typing and computer skills are enough to get it done.
He had some TIU issues.
A multi-level hand built trestle layout.
Really, check out his threads and see if you can help. Cool guy.
Sonny
From Moonmans link, I see you have a great looking layout. In N scale, I like nothing more, than to set up track and watch em run!
But back to your problem.
What stopped working?
Will the locos run in conventional mode?
Looking forward to hearing more.
A shot in the dark, the first thing I would check is the battery in the engine. Many will loose their identity when the battery goes down. If you do a ADD Engine and it comes on but once turned off will not restart, most likely be the battery.
You men are the greatest, you are all right, I never do give you all (south jersey talk youall) the full information. So I will have to check all those engines an get back to youall. Oh I am no longer pushing 90 I'm three months over. An you men have answered my many questions over the years than I can count. GOOD HEALTH FOR the entire year to youall. Sonny
Well, a belated Happy Birthday, Sonny. It's a pleasure to know a nonagenarian.
I'll offer again, I have been working on a layout at the InfoAge Science Museum(Marconi's place and Camp Evans) in Wall Twp. on the Shark River.
I can certainly visit and give you hand if you like.
I know, I know, you'll get it done. Just offerin'...
Happy Birthday, Sonny. Many more.
Sorry it took me so long too get back to you wonderful men. All engines are MTH, run on dcs with tiu. One engine steam. Oh yes they are all P1. Again the one engine is called Hudson. I found out what is wrong with this one.It must have a gear toothout. because it just goes so far and then stops dead. You know that barrel looking thing with the marks on it, well I roll it by hand, engine goes forward and then stops dead. So much for that one. Other is a diesel, you know long motor in front an small cab. This one on live track does nothing, not even a cab light. Last one is p1 steam known as the walsh cannon ball. This one does nothing on live track, but the head light does come on. That's it. Right now I'm having trouble with my fastrack, have dead spots. So I'm doing electrical work. So men, do you think I should forget the three engines, and wait until I have enough money, and replace them.(for a small amount say $125.00 each).Oh yes one of these days I try pictures again.
Sonny, where in South Jersey? I would think the engines can be repaired for a reasonable cost if you have a local shop. PS-1 may just need a new battery and reset, or maybe a bad tether connection so no power to the tender. G
Per his profile he is in Barnegat, NJ, north of Atlantic City, south of Bruce (Springsteen). Closer to the beach than to Philly.
Sounds like that if these are PS - 1s he may need new batteries and a reset. That is a good place to start. Too bad I am not nearby.
Is anyone near him with a Z-4000 that could get to his place and do a reset?
I would be addressing the FT dead spots. PS1 engines are not friendly with track issues. That seems what the Hudson is doing along with a battery that is not charged enough. The bad thing with FT that I have experienced since it came out, is the track develops dead spots or dead sections. Mainly from poor connections at the track pins. The only way to fix this is to take the track apart and put it back together. When I had my larger layout, I was going to jumper each section of track or solder the rails. Now I am running a 4x8 with no issues.
Thanks men also for the happy birthday. also John an Riverrailfan, your suggestion of new battery and reset, question, can I use a new 9v battery just to try engine while I send for recharger ones. An how do you reset a engine? Again you great men for helping me. Sonnhy
Yes to 9V temporarily. The instructions are in the manual. Best to read it and follow it. Make sure tether is fully plugged in for steam. Make sure voltage is less than 10V when trying to get into fwd after start up. G
