Years ago I saw a photo of a Corning Glass hopper car, but currently I cannot find a photo of the prototype. I was wondering if someone knew some some info on these cars (type of hopper, years of operation, and was it only in the Corning, NY area) and of corse any photos would be great. Thanks for any help!

I have tried with no success, only get the HO and O models.
I did a lot of alternative searching and found one photo!
Used to see "short" strings of them parked in the NS Gang Mills, NY yard. They carried various silicate compounds used in the glass making process. Most silicate deliveries to CGW now appear to be in "normal" length covered hoppers.

Lionel produced a Corning hopper for the LCCA (6-9118) in the mid-nineties. There is one currently for sale NIB on that shopping site for about $70.

Thanks for the info. It looks like these cars were built in 1970 and leased through GE. There were ten cars, 90400-90409. They were repainted plain ole' grey in the 80's and I don't know if these cars are still in service.
As far as O scale hoppers, there have been five made (I still have two more to pick up).
Lionel - 1974 LCCA, and the 2001 scale two-bay.
MTH - two bay and four bay from the early 2000's.
K-Line - 1991 two bay.
I had a cylindrical Glass Hopper by MTH. Not sure of its prototypicality though. I may still have it stashed somewhere.

It looks like the MTH cylindrical hopper wasn't prototypical, but still looks good. I actually have one on the way right now. The Lionel 2-bay seems to be the closest to the prototype.
As I mentioned, I haven't seen any of the short hoppers at CGW facilities in quite some time. However, they may still be in service, sans CGW paint, hauling frac sand.
