I'm nearing the stage where everything gets put together. I notice that my custom frame sits too high and a MTH frame fits right on. I can't help but to use it....

there's some small things (to me) that will be corrected, like the ditch lights, etc. I'm having to cut and modify side frames that aren't exactly right......

then of course there's some larger issues that I haven't decided will be OK. The pilots rear piece that the steps attach to needs the angle corrected, and... the number of steps,...... attach the couplers to the body,..... the gas tank isn't really ideally matched up to the right model.....

and then there's a little logo problem too.

Looks good to me.  I wish I had that much talent.  Just take each problem area one at a time.  If I could get to where you are with this model completing it would be a breeze.  Can't wait to see it painted and running around the layout.

BTW, if you do get frustrated with it just send it my way.  I'll make good use of it.

Nice job,  Rick

Joe, Definitely with Chris on this one.  You need to do what makes you the most happy as your work on this project is outstanding!

The first custom frame was just a piece of 1/4 thick plastic. I was going to rout down the thickness in spots and make a relief where the trucks fit for clearance. I had I beam's to duplicate the real look I wanted. Then, I noticed that my 1/32 scale measurements worked out perfectly with MTH's? Go figure?

So I took a spare MTH frame and chopped and lenghtened it where needed. Now I just have to get the builder's plates straight.

Actually, that's changed -  new set of regulations and all that out of Marketing, don't you know.

Now they have to announce production of something that you are working on ~1-3 days prior to your completing it thereby putting you into a total #$#$%%@#$% bind since you can't back up, and you can't leave it unfinished, and you can't just go order one until you learn how to turn around fast enough to kick yourself.....

I started on an SDL39 years ago and have yet to finish it. I took a Weaver 38 body and frame and cut it down. I had the frames made for me as well. Ok, here comes the bug, the actual trucks and how to make them. I asked Ed Reutling but he declined. So I have the truck side frames, body and frame and nothing to show for it, yet.
