Recently enjoyed a brief visit from a reclusive yet towering figure from the world of model trains...and learned some more fascinating details of his life.

His cat was the inspiration for the Chessie System logo....

.....He goes to York in Spring, Fall, and another time of year you don’t know about.

....................He orders direct from Sanda Kan…in perfect Cantonese

.............................If he were to post pictures on Weekend Photo Fun, you would immediately dismantle your layout.

...........................................His is always the "best offer.”

He is....the most interesting man in the (train) world.

                  Stay O Scale my friends."

I believe the residuals from his cat's Chessie contract have him set up for life!!

He owns a fleet of 1:1 Natty Boh reefers...

Madison Hardware sells him actual hardware...

The knuckle coupler is modeled after his fist...

He warned Lee Willis about Simple Green...

The freight cars on his layout earn actual revenue...

He once gave Tony Lash one of his smaller layouts...

Operating accessories on his layout produce high-quality glossy paper from real trees. Then the OGR staff comes to his home and prints each issue.

They bring that issue to him in his private car, one so ornate that the Virginia City (the private car of Lucius Beebe and Charles Clegg) looks like a transfer caboose in comparison.

Lucius Beebe, Charles Clegg, and David P. Morgan regretted that their eloquent prose fell short of portraying his lifestyle.

Ditto for photos by Richard Steinheimer, Don Wood, and O. Winston Link

And also for paintings by Howard Fogg and Grif Teller

After meeting him, your wife could hardly wait to buy trains for him.

OK, that was too easy.

He recently said

Mid-Week Diversion!

Better?

I wish.  No such luck.  He politely informed me that his schedule is too hectic and his global travels in search of rare and collectible trains too intensive to allow him more than an occasional visit when he's in the area.

Besides, as much as he enjoys watching little metal and plastic toys run around in circles, he much prefers hanging out with his "other friends."

He considers a trip on the Orient Express "average accommodations."

He considers a trip on the Trans-Siberian "a little short for his taste."

He's the guy the drunk was talking about...

(Two drunks were walking down a New York City street when one fell down the subway steps.  When he got back up top he told his drinking partner, "...boy you got to see that guy's train set in the basement!" )

Whew Guys,

I thought you meant the loon that talked about adjusting knuckle couplers with oven mitts! Remember that guy? I don't want to mention it here partly due to my poor memory, partly due to the fact that I don't to egg you guys on! Just the fact that this guy pictured above is not the guy that I just mentioned calms me down quite a bit!!

The guy pictured above does have Henry Flagler characteristics though!
