I need two custom conveyor belts for a project; So I have this idea of creating a design of the belt with CorelDraw on paper.
With the width of belt and vertical cleats located; then glue small wood strips located where the cleats are shown on the paper equally spaced on the flat paper, let dry;
THEN spray the paper and cleats with that rubber spray advertized on TV. let dry;
next cut the belt from the paper. I may need to spray both sides of the paper.
I'll let you know if this works.

Apparently you can spray paint rubber on paper and wood and create custom rubber conveyors with cleats.
Alan what was the name of the spray product you used? Also how robust is it? Could it be used for a moving conveyor belt or are you making a static display?

It's the stuff advertised to seal a rowboat with a screen door bottom. FLEX-SEAL.
I have used it on leaking pipes without shutting off the water.
The conveyor belt is both flexible and has added strength to the paper underneath.
Although I am using it in a static display it seems like you could use the spray to connect the ends to themselves in forming a strong continuous loop for an animated conveyor.
Thanks Alan, That looks like a very easy way to make the belt. I have been scrounging old tank tracks from some of my kids old broken toys, but they are never quite long enough for anything I plan to do.

I was using legal size paper for longer belts but it doesn't matter. You can just use the spray to connect longer strips together.
Now that I have this working I may try to make a belt with V-shaped cleats; for the cleats I have I used 1/16 x1/16 bass wood.

I have used Evergreen Styrene corrugated sheets. Cut them to the width you want. After you paint them black, they look just like a conveyor belt. The material can be purchased in 12" x 24" sheets so you will have minimal splicing.
