After months of performing just fine today I have 1 of 4 lines that appears to be running in conventional mode . For the last 5 hours my son has been trying to solve the problem to no avail. I'm cleaning track so we can eliminate that

The problem line is the one where multiple attempts to do a lash up occurred. That may not be relevant. We eventually gave it up as it would only function when it felt like it as a lash up.

When checking whether fixed or variable on the TIU it appears that in the handheld remote all channels are fixed. Upon checking the tablet 5 hours into the problem it says 2 fixed 2 variable and the handheld still says all fixed. ??? If both handheld and tablet are on does 1 take priority over the other?

I have 2 copies of Barry's book and can't seem to find this anywhere.

This malfunctioning line is running of a Lionel 180 brick if that's important. @ lines on a Z4000 2 on 180's

A TIU feature reset has been done. Revision L with latest software

Multiple engine swaps have been done so I'm pretty sure we can eliminate the engine as a problem

The 2 Lionel bricks are disconnected and those 2 lines are plugged into TIU fixed so all 4 lines are now running off the Z4000 in fixed and everything is working as it should.

Track signals are 10 all around so I think we can eliminate a track issue?

I haven't seen much here about defective TIU's but that's where we're at right now.

Switch tracks and see what other tracks do on the problem TIU channel.

When problems arise, I recommend solving them using the remote, to cut the wifi components out of the equation.  If the remote shows one setting and the tablet another, I'd switch the setting on the remote to match the tablet and then switch it back again, so that you're sure the remote reading is current.

There is no priority. The first device to change a TIU's variable channel to fixed or back to variable is the only one that actually changes the channel in the TIU.

The setting must be made in each DCS Remote and DCS App copy in order for that device to know what is.the status of the variable channel.

If you desire to set a channel to Fixed or Variable operation, you must do so on all devices that will access that channel.
