It would be cool if someday our trains computers could keep records and self-diagnose what went wrong. I can only guess that the tether supplied intermittent power and scrambled the board? Like setting the engines onto powered track while putting the wheels on!
At one point I thought it was a mechanical problem, I could get it to chuff but it was't moving. glad it was just a wiring problem, Now I have to figure out how to keep it from happening again.

I’m having the same issue with my P3 Dreyfuss (20-3521-1). She’s got only 50 hrs. on her. She been on the shelve for about nine months. Last time she ran there were no issues. I put her on the layout yesterday, got sound, rear coupler fires, But no lights or movement. Did the manual reset several times, still the same issue. After reading this thread I am thinking of replacing the draw bar. What do you guys think?

check both ends of the drawbar. Sometimes it comes un-seated at the engine side. I didn't open mine up so I'm not sure if there's a separate boiler board?
If the drawbar is fully connected I would think there's something else wrong.
That draw bar has to be seated all the way !!
Thanks Gents, I going to remove / reinstall and clean the drawbar and contacts when I get home from work. If that's No Joy, I'll try swapping out the drawbar with the one from my Empire State Express.
Replacing the drawbar did the trick, she’s up and running. I did not put the ground spring back, as I put in a 45mm drawbar instead of the 50mm and did not want to cut the spring to fit. I do not think will be an issue as not all my P3 steamers have one. Did a test run on the layout, and ran her up to 100 SMPH with no issues

The spring is only used by 2-Rail/3-Rail PS3 engines to assist in ensuring good outside rail connectivity.
