When we were evaluating the LionChief Area 51 set, we found ourselves with three of the Area 51 RS-3 diesels; mine, Don"s and another one we had for evaluation. The otherworldly sounds they could make just blew us away.  When they were selected , it sounded like something out of a 1960s Sci-Fi movie!

We had so much fun with them that we had John Ciccarelli build a diorama so we could show off the set, complete with aliens and a UFO.  You can see the images in Run 271 of OGR which is being delivered now to many subscribers and newsstand readers. If you have a Premium Membership, you can also see a video of the the set including the lighted UFO and all the unearthly sounds the  RS3 can make.

I wondered if you could double head LionChief diesels, provided they are identical, and it turns out you can. Called Mike Reagan first and he said give it a try, shouldn't be a problem.  He was right and that just added to the fun.

Thought I would pass this along.

Don't think I would call it a lash up, out of respect for my partner, Rich.  Wouldn't call it a hook up either, since we are not a singles site!

On other thing we did find was that if the two diesels were separated from each other by a few track lengths, only one sound unit would work.  Didn't have time to test further....but we still had fun!

By the way, we had one person ask if the paint scheme for the Area 51 diesels was prototypical and we said,"yes".

When you think about, it really is.
