TLDR: Is it possible to downgrade from using a PS3 sound file on a PS3 engine to using a PS2 sound file without any big issues (lighting, operation, etc?)

I recently took acquisition of a PS3 CN U1f (20-3498-1.) It’s a gorgeous engine, especially after I finished modifying it in the paint shop. However, the sounds leave something to be desired. The engine has a unique sound set, but the sounds aren’t mixed well and many are clipped/cut off. My first thought was maybe a corrupted file, but downloading the file from MTH and playing it back through the ADS program (I forget the acronym of that freeware) revealed that the file is correct. I went through the MTH website again and pulled out the PS2 3v release of this locomotive. Still a unique sound set, this version is much better mixed.
My question is, can I use this sound file on a PS3 locomotive?

I’ve had issues in the past where swapping sound files has caused some issues. Many times this has been when I’ve upgraded PS2 5v locomotives to PS3 using stacker boards. I’ll try to use a more recent sound file only to find issues with lighting and sometimes speed control.

I know 5V files don't work in the PS32 board, so that is a well-understood issue.  MTH used to convert these to 3V so you could use them, don't know if they still do that.

I've truthfully never tried a 3V file in a PS/3, my sense is no-go.  This is a question for @GGG, if anyone has tried this, he probably has.

Yes you can load the PS-2 3V into the PS-3, but you will need to check your softkeys and you may not get all the same lighting features, but you might.  If it doesn't work reload a PS-3 Sound file.  Leave the flash code alone.  Did you try the 3497 sound file?  Might be the same, but maybe not.  I would also send to info MTH email and let them know.  They may have correction or can make one.  G
