DR 44 2 to 3 Rail Conversion

Hi folks, I'm posting here for help on changing over my MTH DR 44 German steam engine from 2 to 3 rail. I have the center contact rollers, and see a picture in the manual of what the tender looks like underneath with the rollers, but I'm not sure what I should do with the copper contact plates that have a wire soldered to each of them. Anyone else do the conversion on this locomotive here?
