The post "1946 726 w/o whistle" remind me of some Lionel I purchased in the early eighties. A #675 loco w/tender and a single motor GG1. They had what I believe are nickel tires on the drivers. Up to that point all of my locos had the normal "sintered iron", correct me if that's not the right term. I noticed that these two locos ran much quieter than all of my others. When Lionel introduced Magne-Traction, the tires went the way of high button shoes. I liked those two locos and also liked the quiet.
