I have a brand new mth 20-3689-1 Milwaukee Road Hiawatha that will not go forward or reverse.

The start up, shut down , sounds and smoke work fine. It is set to DCS . I am running with the Wi-Fi system and other engines run fine.  When I try forward or reverse the engine does not even attempt to move. The app on my iPad does indicate a speed.

what should I look for?  Any help would be appreciated.

While it shouldn't make any difference, you can try a W-B-B-B-B-B (W=Whistle. B=Bell) Conventional AC reset to see if issue clears up. DCS and Conventional are loosely (very loosely) tied together for some things. And while a Conventional Reset shouldn't impact DCS operation it's worth a shot as we've seen weirder things fix odd problems.

Beyond that, you are looking at the following as the usual suspects:

  • Broken motor wire at the motor
  • Broken motor wire at the 8-pin Boiler Board connection
  • Smashed/damaged wire in between the two
  • Software issue with the boiler/hardware table/ DSP code. For this you could attempt to load the Consumer Package Code files off our website

 

After that it's time to give us or an ASC a call to see about having someone look at it.
