Charly, I do them. The RS-1 might be a little tight, can't say for sure if I can get it to fit. Contact me through my profile and we can talk. BF
Atlas RS-1s came with EOB so it will fit but it is snug.

Truthfully, I like the ERR Cruise Control a lot better than the EOB. It's also easier to install.
A lot of my EOB installs have been done by Weaver, and so far I've had no problems. Because it is getting harder to find EOB kits/installers, I've decided to install EOB only in my steamers, and ERR's cruise in my diesels. The reason for installing in a steamer is because EOB gives you selectable 2 or 4 chuffs per revolution without additional sensors. I've added this to all my older Lionel engines that came with only 2 chuffs/revolution.
There are two issues with EOB that some folks do not like. Neither one bothers me.
1) There is a whine in older EOB units. This can be corrected with new software, but I'm not sure who does that now (I had mine upgraded by TAS). I did not notice the whine before the upgrades; did the upgrade to get the latest software.
2) EOB has a built in slow acceleration rate, and this cannot be adjusted. If you want your engines to have jack rabbit starts, do not put in an EOB unit. I like realistic starts, so I like this feature.

My problem with EOB is that it just doesn't offer the speed control regulation that either ERR or my Legacy Odyssey II stuff has. I'd rather add the extra magnet.
Different strokes for different folks.
What does an EOB do and what do the letters mean (an acronym)?
Thx
Alex
EOB - Engineer On Board
It is speed control like Lionel Odyssey or the ERR Cruise Commander products.

Another issue with EOB is the product is out of production.
I have 8 of them. BF
I have a Dash 8 with EOB . It starts out slow but is always a good runner.Doesn't smoke worth beans but I like it. Always have had good service out of Atlas stuff.I have some 45 year old engines that are still running strong.
It's funny that EOB is out of production and coarse the excuse is always that the components are no longer available. But every new engine I see in Weavers catalog says smoke by TAS?????? What'd he buy 50 thousand of those things ?
Charly your best bet is a cruise commander turned up on it's side. You can also check with Ken at ERR and see if he thinks the mini commander will carry the load. It would fit easily into the RS-1. Both will run the sound board and you'll probably have to convert to LED's for headlights.

Hello!!
Thank you for all the responses, will let y'all know what's going on shortly. This request is for a buddy who is not online with us. He is thinking about sending his Loco to All Aboard for upgrade... any thoughts.
Thanks for the offer Sasquatch, will let you know.
I'd second David's suggestion, go with the ERR Cruise Commander.
I am with Ron (Cappilot) on this. Since steam chuffs are not an issue go with ERR. Save the EOB for steam engines. It is superior to ERR if you want synchronized smoke and chuff. ERR has the edge for simplicity and smooth low speed control. If there is no smoke unit in the engine now then just install a fan driven unit that can be turned on and off with the R2LC board.

Atlas RS1 had EOB when offered March 22 2004 to date. The speed control was not originally termed EOB. New paint May 27 2003. The model was offered new April 19 2002.
Offered Feb 7 2005
Offered Dec 1 2006
Offered June 2 2008
Offered June 10 2010
I believe the SW model has a bit longer history.
call weaver models and talk with gary, all of my upgrades have been done there.
I hope I'm not insulting any cavemen. The ERR upgrades in a diesel are so simple a caveman could do it.

Are you calling me a caveman?

I think what I'm trying to say is that the ERR kits are so well engineered and their installation manual so thorough, pictures included that those here that don't think they can install TMCC in one of their diesel engines by themselves should give it a try.
