I will use a diesel air horn if possible, the "A"s never had a steam w

Some of the early TMCC locos had conventional versions that did not respond to the tmcc whistle button. You might get one of the conventional boards with steam sounds for chuff sounds and pair it up with a diesel tmcc signal sounds board which only has horn and bell.  Loco will need a large tender to get two sound systems inside.   If there is room in your tender I bet Gunrunner John can cobble such a sound system together for you.      j

Jeff, It sounds like you just want to replace the existing Railsounds board with something with a horn. You can use any Railsounds 4, 5, or even 5.5 board thats available.

You can also do it yourself as the boards just plug in. Remove the tender shell and swap boards. It will be obvious which one to remove as all of the boards mentioned above appear essentially identical.

Pete , It sounds like he wants steam sounds with a horn.   Do you recall any steam board which had a horn ? The real SP-GS4 had both horn and whistle.  He could use  a diesel Signal Sounds board which has horn and bell without any motor sounds.      I wonder what a diesel RailSounds board sounds like with the chuff / speed / cherry switch input disconnected ?          If his loco still has a TAS board some of them had a ramp up feature which took the place of a speed sensor.                      j

The only one I am aware of as well is the GS4. Not sure the TMCC version has it but I think it does. The early Legacy version with RS5.5 does for sure and believe it will work too. I have tested RS5.5 with a TMCC R2LC C08 and got whistle and bell. Horn is a different keystroke so can’t confirm that would work.

Can a tech replace the electronics in a Weaver engine with say a Lionel TMCC electronics used in a Lionel Milwaukee Road S-3??

Back to the original question, if Lionel made a S3 with TMCC then its an easy swap. If it was only made in the last ten years, that version would likely have a Railsounds lite board and require a full Legacy upgrade. Currently only a handful of people do that now.
