Too early for Christmas music, let's at least get Thanksgiving out of the way!  We already got many of those pesky politicians out of the way.

The story goes......A long time ago, from the ghost of breakfast past.....Chuck ordered his breakfast and when "it " arrived it was not what he had ordered, it was  a stack of pancakes with whipped cream and strawberries. Being the kind and benevolent gentleman that he is Chuck graciously accepted the mistake and dug in, much to the howls of laughter, delight, and good natured ribbing of all of us in attendance that morning. As Peter has pointed out we tease Chuck mercilessly about this at each gathering and he is indeed a very good sport about the whole thing.

 

and on another note..........I agree with the thought that it is way too early for Christmas music. Time moves too quickly as it is, Lets slow down and enjoy the month of November and Thanksgiving.

I would think that if you were at York, you would be seeing the same trains again at Allentown.

The trains are almost irrelevant.  It's all about the people and many of them weren't at York.

Excellent point.........and you never know when lighting will strike and you find that one pristine piece that you have been hunting for......after all half the fun is in the hunt.

Allentown has a number of small vendors that do not sell at York. ( One in particular that I am looking forward to seeing Saturday morning )   

 

and even if all the trains were the same..........as Greg mentioned "the trains are almost irrelevant" it's all about seeing a great bunch of folks.

I don't know if Allentown has had a "First Frost" yet, but it's supposed to go down to 27 tonight.

I had originally planned on going to the show, but since Post War coal loads are the biggest seller there, and I sold all I had at York and didn't have time to make more, I decided to pass. Also, I teach CCD class, (Sunday School), and would not be able to be there on Sunday. There are two local shows coming up, one in Pittston, and one in Taylor that I may be able to do.

Just got home from Allentown...thanks, all, for the hospitality at the breakfast, and I was in and out at Allentown, having picked up a car I wanted (mid-60's Lionel 3662 Milk Car with plastic trucks) along with a nice-running Lionel 625 Lehigh Valley 44-tonner, a book on Reading motive power I once had but which was somehow tossed by accident in a house cleaning, and a number of bulbs, switch lanterns, and some traction tires for two steamers. Not a bad day. Had fun even though I got yelled at by a Parking Gestapo at the fairgrounds for parking by the farmers' market. Oh well, I was in and out of the show in an hour. Thanks for the early tickets, Chuck!

Something came up at home last minute and prevented me from going.  Hope you all enjoyed breakfast and found something for your collections.  (How were the pancakes??!) I guess for me it's countdown to Spring Thaw!!!

Sorry to have missed this terrific train show and the great folks, but my migraine showed up this morning and that killed the plans for the day. I hope to see everyone at the "Thaw" when snow is usually on the ground.

Say it 'aint so!

I was a little disappointed this time around with the Allentown show.   The only thing I bought was a cup of coffee.  I almost bought a Rugged Rails 2-8-0 with PS2 for $125.  I thought the PS2 parts alone would be worth it as a donor engine.  But we don't have anything that needs an upgrade.

 

Then I almost bought a Legacy CAB1L / Base 1L for $165.  Thought that was a fair price.  Then my son reminded my that we don't have any TMCC or Legacy engines.  So I passed.

 

Not all was lost however.  On the way home we stopped by the Reading & Northern and looked at the engines.  After that we stopped at Roadside America.  My son had never been there.  We enjoyed ourselves.

I sure hope all the bills got paid...goodness knows she wasn't on her A game.  Did everyone get enough to eat?  Heck...did everyone get ANYTHING to eat?

That's a nice hotel, went to a wedding reception there several years ago. The wife's brother is a retired Bethlehem cop, and we used to go there every summer for music fest. We visit our niece from time to time. We're about due, as we drop off Christmas presents for their two children. They are of course trains!.Don

A great time at the HamFam for breakfast with all the friends met through OGR magazine. Breakfast was soo slow that we had time to walk around and mingle.  I person trying to serve all of us at once was a disaster and my food was luke warm at best.  The cashier asked how my breakfast was and I was honest with her as I stated above.  She led me to believe there were problems at the restaurant but couldn't go into it.  Good thing the friendship was warm!  Chuck was his usual great host and even dressed in a matching shirt and camera ensemble as you can see in one of the above pictures.

Yes, trying to deliver breakfast to about 18 people, all at once, by two servers, was not too smart (but we did get separate checks).

I don't remember EVER seeing such a long line to get in the show at 8am. At 8:10, it was still a long line. As usual, by 10 the place was mobbed, so I left without doing a second pass. I bought a Atlas HO house that looks fine on my S layout (it's odd how HO buildings seem to be in different sizes. I thought those guys were scale fanatics),

The show was great, and I got a few nice items that I wanted (although the whistle I wanted out of that rusty tender was in worse shape than the tender itself). The company at breakfast was great too. The food was an issue though. I think they forgot me, and rushed my meal (it came out 10 minutes later than almost everyone else's food). Even so, my sausage was still cold.

Hopefully they have what ever problems the cashier was referring to straightened out for Spring Thaw.
