I'm restoring the Blue Comet Observation Car (6-9540) and can't get the lights to stop flickering as it rolls along the track.  I've taken it apart, checked the connections, and taken the axles out to polish them up for a better connection.  It's helped the issue but not solved it.  Could the roller be the problem?  The wire connection is good-but-could the roller simply not be making good contact?  How can I make it better?

Wow-appreciating the prompt reply!  Unfortunately, this car doesn't have roller springs (wouldn't that have been too easy?).  Instead of roller springs, the roller pickup is held in place by some fairly flimsy plastic clips that are part of the bottom.  Some designer at Lionel probably thought this was an improvement.  For me, it just raises some suspicions.  So-in order to do anything with the roller, I need to replace the deck (to which the "plastic clips" are attached.  Any help is appreciated!
