I need to glue the cross on the steeple of this MTH church. What type of glue would you use?

The market is flooded with a variety of plastic compatible glue. Just pick one and you'll be fine.
Because it's going to be hard to keep the cross upright and straight for a glue with a slow setting/working time, I would use a fast setting C/A glue available in small tubes at HD or Lowes - Dap makes one that I use that sets up in 30 seconds. Put a dab on a piece of plain paper and use a toothpick to apply a small amount to both the cross and the building and hold in place steadily for 30 seconds. I would first do a couple of dry practice runs to make sure everything fits together properly before gluing.
You can also buy and apply a C/A accelerator (spray or brush on) with one hand while you're holding the cross in place with the other hand, that will give you an almost instantaneous hold.
I've had trouble gluing plastic with CA / Super glue. I just tried it on an Atlas model this week and it didn't hold. I used Gorilla Clear Grip Contact Adhesive and it held great. Setup was about 20 seconds. It's a very thick glue. It also dries clear. You could try plain old Testors, but I have found that to be messy.

If you use CA glue it will not ruin any painted surfaces. If that is not an issue, use Plastruct Bondene liquid glue for similar plastics.
What is the cross-section of the joint. Is it just a thin section being butt-glued to the substrate? If so, I would drill both parts to accept a piece of 1/32" brass rod (0.032"). The brass rod provides the structural strength and the CA just holds it all in place. I drill and pin lots of small joints that have limited surface area.
