The only good thing about this scenario is she's so busy I don't have to worry about being a Grandpa before I'm 50. Now for the other 4 I'm still keeping my fingers crossed! Am super excited about the City Of Seattle then I can repaint some of my K-line Domes to NP NorthCoast Limited, unless we can convince Scott to make the domes or the whole train. After all Shani is going to be getting all my money for the foreseeable future.  Bad Grandpa?

"I wish everyone on the West Coast all the best during this very significant storm.  It's looking to be one for the record books.  Stay safe out there!"

Actually it's more media hype than anything. Pretty much a garden variety west coast storm. Wind blew about 60 mph for a couple of hours yesterday and we got a bit less than 4 inches of rain here on the coast so far. I don't think it's anything that would affect container shipping to the east coast by more than a day of two.....DaveB

Hope everyone else who ordered this train enjoys theirs - its coming soon to your door.

You beat me to it; I just got a shipping notice too for two packages although I am mystified by the weight - 7 lbs? Can't be anything but the T of T although maybe the engine is boxed separately.

It's true, the GMToT has been shipped. This is wonderful news for all of you who have ordered this product. You will not be disappointed.

Hopefully, UPS will get to you before December 24th so you will have something very nice to put under your Christmas Tree.

And it is coming in two packages, so that's probably what the weight variance is.

While we are feeling very good about this news, it would not have happened were it not for the efforts of Scott Mann. He is the guy to say thank you to. So for all of us who ordered this very special train, thanks Scott and best wishes for a joyous holiday season with your family.

That's great news they are close but I think these are just the notifications of the shipping labels being created.  UPS doesn't actually have the packages yet I don't think.  It may be Sunset is getting a jump on creating the shipment in the UPS system?  Everyone seems to be getting same delivery date even though we are in different parts of country. it says on mine once the items are received by UPS shipping info will be updated.  I hope they ship this week!  Very exciting.

The Sunset 'Train of Tomorrow' is indeed a wonderful train set. I definitely would have ordered one from Scott some time ago if it weren't for the fact that I'm no longer collecting or operating any model trains. I'm almost positive this set will be a sought after collectors item in years to come and I'm very pleased for those of you who had the good fortune to order the ToT when first announced by Sunset.

To those who ordered - enjoy!

This nice thing about this forum is that it allows all of us to enjoy trains that others ordered.  I didn't order the Big Boy but will very much enjoy following the threads and watching the videos upon its release.  Just like I have with the Gold Polar Express.

Much easier on the wallet as well.  Although you may get some folks to admit they occasionally purchase something BECAUSE they see it here on the forum!

I could swear I saw the GM ToT on the GGD website a few days ago for $1549 or so, but now it's nowhere to be found.  When did this train sell-out?  A while ago, or just recently?  Or perhaps it hasn't really sold out yet, and I just couldn't find the web page/brochure yesterday.

This particular offering wasn't my cup-of-tea.  Just more curious than anything.  The ad content and style reminded me of similar things we've seen for the CZ in the same general timeframe.

As of 8 AM Tuesday 12.16, the container has not been delivered. Yesterday the truck waited 5 hours to get the container from the Port, and they were turned away at the end of the day. This after having a scheduled pickup at 3-4 PM.

We always cut UPS tags a few days prior to shipping to catch the mistakes and "Don't ship until..." customers.

Sadly, it is now too late to get packages to the East Coast prior to Christmas. UPS has been delivering 1 - 2 days later than estimates according to our driver.

My guess is we will have the container on Friday and begin shipping on Monday 12.22.

No problem Scott. I appreciate the candid update. Your regular communication has made my buying experience so much more enjoyable. We always know where the project stands and because you tell it like it is, we never have reason to doubt your word. That's an incredibly valuable thing. Wish all train manufacturers would follow your lead.

Thanks, Jon.  I was looking on the GGD website yesterday instead of 3rdrail.com, that's why I didn't see it.

I should clarify my earlier comment, in that this is indeed a very handsome train set, and the attention to detail looks wonderfully meticulous.  If I still were heavily into new O-Gauge trains, this would have definitely been on my buy-list.  But I'm winding down the big O-Gauge purchases these days, given my change-of-focus to Standard Gauge.

Must be something in the air these days... my switching to Standard Gauge; Patrick dismantles his amazing Pittsburgh layout earlier in the year; Eliot is selling off the trains and buildings of his wonderful Munoz Lines; and I just saw over the weekend that Grzyboski Trains has recently acquired 20+ pallets of Dick Kuhn's huge train collection and has already started selling individual pieces!  Wow!!!    I called them yesterday looking for something, but it was already there and gone.

Never a dull moment.

Tuesday Night Update:

2nd Attempt to pickup container in progress at 4PM. Unknown if they will be successful.

Demurge Fee from Port for Late Pickup?: $275

Trucking Extra Fee $100 and climbing.

Generally a container with all fees costs about $2800 - $3000 to bring over.

Thanks Port of Oakland.... I wish there was a way I could hire a boat and just bring it over myself. Definitely easier than waiting for all these Bozos.

Here is what we get from our Freight Forwarder as a condition of scheduling another pickup.

Hi Scott,

Bad news, driver is still unable to pick up this container after waited from 11AM until 4:30PM. Since today is the port LFD (extended to 12/16), container will be on port demurrage from 12/17 at $225 per day, I will go ahead to guarantee the port demurrage with Maersk (SSL) first so driver can try again to pick up tomorrow.  Pls kindly confirm your acceptance on the extra port demurrage fee by return. Thank you.

Any Lawyers out there? Sounds like extortion to me. This might be a fun one in Small Claims Court.
