These are the best videos posted so far of the GMToT. I thoroughly enjoyed them. This makes a spectacular passenger train on your layout. What a smart move in getting one of these gems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"So who's gonna be the first one to weather theirs"

Now as far as Atlanta is concerned, only one word appropriately applies here:

NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is how I took it...and you are very intuitive!  Not only am I a misplaced Texan, I'm also estranged from my old three rail club in the LA area: Angel's Gate.  They are a great group.

Not only would I be shocked to see anyone weather that train of yours, I doubt it would be very prototypical.  GM probably kept that thing sparkling!

BTW, I almost used the same green smiley to denote my envy.

I have not converted. The Rangers finally started playing better so I can't give up on them now.  That said, the Braves are building their new ballpark close to my home so the appeal will be growing.

I did join a group of Atlanta Hawks season ticket holders a couple of years ago. That's looking like a great decision right now with the way they are playing!  A couple of the group dropped out and now I'm #2 in group seniority and get about 15 games a year. Our seats are on row C behind the Atlanta bench.

I'd really appreciate some local 3-rail contacts. I miss the train club interaction I left behind. You can email me at sgrayson (at) att.net with any contact info. Thanks much!

I think that what you are seeing in the videos is the 3 rail version of the model and yes, 3rd Rail uses a flasher circuit and LED that only functions when the engine is in forward motion. (I imagine that the 2 rail version with DCC has a DCC controlled and more prototypical Mars light function).

A while back I queried this with Scott and he said that he's had trouble sourcing a reliable Mars light board for 3 rail models at a reasonable cost. Too many of the ones they used to use failed in service.

I have substituted an Ngineering Mars Light simulator board in my 3rd Rail E-7s for the stock circuit and it works very well although designed for HO and N scale models. Will try and post a video later. It's a fairly fiddly exercise because the components are really tiny and require some soldering skill to assemble but I think that the effect is worth it. Go here to see Ngineering's simulator board line:

Its hard to get a picture of the inside although they do have a lot of basic detail that matches the general layout of the interior of the real TOT and in person you can see inside the cars and see all the detail.  Club chairs and tables in the Observation car and the Triangular ones, etc in the other cars.  This is a great set.  The only thing it fell short on were the figures in the cars.  HAHA, they look like melted blobs.  And the paintwork on them is bad.  I plan to get some nice woodland scenic ones and replace the ones in there and add some more figures, they are a little sparse.  Here are some pics I tried to get of the inside.  This is my first purchase from 3rd Rail, so I think this is one area that could be improved.  But make no mistake, I would never have passed up this train even if it had no interior detail.  Oh and all those white specs you see in the pics are just foam packing dust.  I still have to clean everything from the shipping materials getting all over.  One of my cars had some powdery white stuff on it to, but a wet soft cloth wiped it right off.  I took the engine shell off to remove the 9 Volt battery 3rd rail installed  (I'm legacy only and don't need it and did not want it leaking in the train from storage).  While I was in there I saw the single horizontal motor that uses a geared rubber drive belt to drive the drive shafts that drive the wheels.  This is my first time seeing that type of setup, as I only have Lionel Engines.  I rerouted some wires while in there to avoid them showing through one of the windows in the engine and also touched up the paint on the cab crew so they looked like human beings, haha.

Otherwise thrilled with this set.
