I go to sit it on my fastrack, and try to run it with my normal transformer(yea I know) but i cant get nothing to run and the middle wheels wont turn, excuse me on the terms, still new but it is the wheels the metal rods are connected to, I just want to see it go around track normal till i get  my nice controls

What transformer are you trying to use with it?  Unless it's on the compatible transformer list in the back of the manual, chances are the locomotive will go into a protect mode and will not run.  These trains are full of delicate electronics and the wrong kind of transformer power output can fry the boards.  So I'd either wait or find someone that has an approved transformer to run the locomotive.

Can you specify what type of engine it is?  You say it's a Chessie, but there were a lot of those made over the years so it would help if you specified who made it, what the catalog # is, etc.  Also as sinclair alluded to above, the type of transformer you're currently trying to use would also be helpful in helping you troubleshoot.

If this is a newer PS3 equipped MTH engine it will take several moments before it will do anything as the capacitor inside of it charges up first, so give it about 15 seconds or more.

If there's still no change, did you already try to cycle the power on the transformer to see if it will move?  Some engines like MTH start in neutral first when power is first applied so you have to briefly shut the power off (either by using the transformer handle or pressing and briefly holding the direction button) and back on to cycle the direction unit.

I'd NEVER run a MTH PS3 loco with a Lionel CW-80 transformer.

Once you have a MTH type transformaer here is a few things to check before running.

MY PS3 locos have switches under water hatch for 2-3 rail. I had to flip mine back and forth into the correct position before running.

ALSO....the drawbar....metal bar between the loco and tender/coal car...is a little tricky to get seated 100%....which it has to be or not run.

If you bought locally I'd have the dealer check it before going further.....or osmeone with a few years under their belt.

Good luck!

There use to be a MTH dealer in Hickory it doesn't appear they are still in business. You are about 50 miles from the Little Choo Choo Shop in Spencer. When will you get your Z1000? More than likely I will have to drive to Greenville, SC this month. I could loan you one if it is going to be a while before you get one.
