Lionel's Battle Train is now available for download on iTunes. It seems to available worldwide too, as I've just downloaded it here in Holland.

And, it's free too!

I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but I thought that you would like to know that it has been released.

There  are many apps which are iPad only due to the interface size, looking at the game it would be bad on the iphone. Some are universal where you D/L one app and it presents the interface for the platform you are on, others are usual called HD versions (Example Angry Birds HD)  which are iPad only

I don't have a tablet, and do not plan to purchase one.

If there was a demo version available to run on Windows 8, I'd try it.

Nope, since its a touch interface and a totally different operating system there isn't and probably never will be

Hence the disclaimer, "usually."

John,

Don't try.  For many living in the Apple ecosystem if it doesn't come out of Cupertino, CA (or China) is does not exist.  The Surface is the first touch oriented OS ever with more built in touch gestures than iOS.  This app would work very well on the Surface.

Chessie,

Don't worry, I know better; not everyone drinks the same flavor Koolaid, let alone assuming the one they drink by default is the most common one.  And that's exactly what Lionel needs to consider with any app development they do.

you think it is free, did you actually read the user agreement before you checked it. on most free apps you you just about give away all your rights to privacy. and people are upset with the government invading your privacy. they should just give you a free app and they would have no more complaints.

I have an original iPad. It downloaded but will not open. It does say requires iPad 2 or newer.

My iPad will not run an IOS higher than 5. Pretty much hitting that on all the newer apps.

Time to sell this iPad and get the newest one.  I have to say for what I paid for the original iPad compared to the hours of use it comes out to be a really cheap price.

My wife just loaded Battle Trains on her new iPad as did my daughter on hers.  They are both playing it and loving it.  Good move Lionel. This will bring my family more into my train world; very welcome indeed!!!

Thanks Nicole. You always have chipper and fun posts.

Ill pick up a new iPad this weekend at the Apple store and join the fun.

*Sigh* Chris, Chris, Chris...  set your iKoolaid drink aside for a minute.

Surface was mentioned merely as one example of a commercially available tablet computer in the market place.  Ever heard of ASUS?  Dell?  HP?  They all make Windows-based tablets, not just Microsoft.
