My nephew came across the following item mixed in with a box of some old lionel and HO items. He asked me if I knew when this was made but I couldn't find anything. Anyone have any idea about when and who made this ?

That is a Marx #2002 hand car. Probably made in the 50's or 60's!
Does it run?
You can see the Marx logo between the brakeshoes.

It does run ( after he cleaned up the old grease and contacts). He found this along with some Lionel stuff in a box in his granfather's basement.
Any ideas on what it might be worth, if anything ?

He has a nice looking piece there. The current Greenberg's lists it at $80 for excellent condition. It was made from 1956-74.
A nice looking one with its original box is on ebay (#280823889283) till Sunday, should you wish to follow it. The way values are now, I'd be surprised if it hit $80.
The biggest consideration on these handcars is whether all 4 of the handles that protrude from the ends are present. Most examples are missing one or more.
