I was wondering if anyone can identify the MTH F units that are pictured here and which MTH set model number they are. They are for sale as a set and the owner states they are a Premier F3 set. The set number image at the MTH site (20-2696-1) doesn't appear to be the same locomotives as the cab numbers different. Just trying to figure this out...

Thanks for any help

They have it listed with the box with the same model number listed above and PS2 on the label. I have an odd feeling that it is the wrong box and the seller can't tell the difference or is being untruthful. I will try to get a pic of the label.

I have the feeling it is a PS1 set. He was asking $300 for it...

I'm not sure about the diesel sets but the PS1 steamers have only four wires and pins in the tethers. So maybe you could look at that?

I would have guessed it was older and maybe the PS2 5 volt or even older?

Maybe someone like prrhorseshoecurve will see this and comment? I believe Mark may know.

20-2696-1 on MTH's web site looks like an early F3 (high fans, chicken wire) with PS2, while the picture above looks like a late F3/F7 (low fans, stainless grill).  Cab numbers in the catalog are different too.

Did a google search and could not find any F3 in O with a cab #9680, although a Williams F3 instruction manual kept coming up.  I did find an MTH HO model of an F3 that had #9680.

Anyway, unless MTH did a major change between the catalog graphics and production, these engines are not 20-2696.

OK. I have the First DLGE PS1 F3 A-B-A set. I don't have the units or the box in front of me right now but I have a picture of them.

The unit numbers are #9546A & 9548A

Sorry but I can't make out the B unit #

They have NO Trainphone Antenna or Windshield Wipers

They do have the red [Slave unit] and green [Powered unit] marker light bulbs on the nose above the number boards.

The number board fonts are small just like in the photo.

Except for the cab numbers,   these are a dead ringer for MTH 20-2648-1,  Pennsy F7 ABA from 2006 Vol 1 catalog.    Maybe MTH changed the cab numbers for the production run instead of what was shown in the catalog.   They have done that numerous times before.

Well, looking at them in person, they are PS 2 with 3volt boards. There is a MTH manual in the box for "Scale F3/F7 ABA Diesel Engine".

not much else to go on. I was elated when I found a piece of paper with a MTH number in the box....It was for an Amtrak P42. Dead end.

definitly the wrong box as the styrofoam was hand cut inside to make room for the train phone antenna.

A few problems with the set. A couple of broken antenna brackets, the smoke unit and red markers not working on the secondary A unit. Stuff I can fix...
