I just purchased a Lionel S-4 Odyssey switcher from Ebay and surprise surprise it is not in C-8 Like new condition. I am considering sending it back, but I want to make sure I have covered all the bases first. The problem is that it only moves about an engine length in either direction then it just stops. I'm using TMCC btw. after it stops spin the cab-1 dial and it goes about the same distance then stops. Also, it doesn't seem to respond to the boost button and there is a 5-10 second delay responding to my throttle inputs. I have tried turning Odyssey on and off. I have reset the engine per the manual. I have tried everything I can think of. The sounds and lights work so it is getting signal. I've never seen this behavior before. All other TMCC engines on the layout work fine so it is localized to something in this unit. Any thoughts? I am debating on sending it back or getting a partial refund and shipping it off to Canfield. I'm affraid of what that may cost though.
