I have three of these Lionel die-cast hoppers that were converted to using kadee couplers.  I would like to convert them back to 3-rail, knuckle couplers.  Any suggestions for a good place to find 3 pair of trucks?  These trucks screw into the car from the bottom and are sprung.  Lionel of course is showing them as unavailable.  Any and all suggestions or help is welcome.

Thanks,

Randy

Hello Randy. I’ve been replacing the “improved” (plastic, non-sprung) trucks on my Friendship Train PS-1 boxcars with trucks from donor cars. Don’t hold me to this, but I believe the trucks on your die-cast hooper cars are the same as used on many other scale cars of a similar vintage. You might be able to find inexpensive (non-diecast) donor cars at train shows and pay less than what replacement trucks would cost (if available). But, one thing I would definitely not recommend is trying to retrofit them with “new” trucks from the parts department. They will be the plastic, non-sprung versions (and more expensive than a donor car).
