Hi everyone. I recently bought an Acela off eBay, and it didn't come with the manual. I just need to know where the run/program switch is, and what box the legacy module is in.
Thanks

The run program switch is on top under a removal panel. No Module, but the remote has the programing for the Acela built in. When you enter it into the controller scroll for Acela in engine type (diesel, steam electric, Acela).
Here's the manual

Being from 2005 it would be TMCC, not Legacy. So no module.
Have fun with it! Mine is still in its box, under the layout not working.
Mine is on a shelf in the family room, the color scheme matches the decor.

So, what's the bargain price for the set?

Hmm will let you when I'm done fixing it! Took me two hours to replace the traction tires on it, and it usually takes me only 20 minutes on the really tough ones. Next the Pantagraphs.....
I was at railfest in mentor and the guy had one new in box and I remember everyone on here saying they never ran right .So I passed on it. It sure looked good.
Your Acela is TMCC not Legacy. The Legacy Acela should be soon from Lionel. I ride the real Acela often and it is cool to play the Lionel sounds as they are recorded from the real deal. When I am asked what is the worst job to do on a model train. Easy answer. Changing traction tires on an Acela.
One of the worst things is the IR between each car. I have hard wired a few sets and that takes away many operating issues.
It's not a plug and play set. The IR couplers are the issue. Each cars turns dumb, including the dummy locomotive when they lose contact with the lead engine. I can get the original set to function, but when I add my 3 car expansion set in all h*ll breaks loose.
Change the traction tires on a vision line cc2 .. It has locking gear box .. Never again ..
One of my orignal cars of the set doesn't work right. So I brought the expansions set so I didn't have to mess with that car. If it moves up to the top of my list, I have a feeling that it the grease that has gum up on the doors. I had that happen with a rotary crane that was nos. The grease turned into glue.

Check to make sure the limit switches are not bound up. Took me 10 minutes to fix all the doors. Tough one is the car leveling feature. My cars will not find their center. ..
The two wires going to each IR unit consist of serial and ground. Not hard to get done. An Acela set hard wired is very reliable to operate.
here's the link to all of the service documents.
I would use the Cab-1 mode in the legacy set-up.

Now you tell me! The traction tires on mine are too fat, and they're dragging on the brake shoes. I was looking at it and thinking what a PITA it's going to be to change them!

I can second that. Not a fun one.

Hey John you got it for a good price but that's where the fun ended ! It might be the most difficult engine I have worked on (I changed the housing that holds all the wheels )though the Santa Fe 2-10-10-2 second steam chest might be the worst ever.
I have one. Bought it a few years back. When everything is running right, it's a show-stopper. Now if you like to tinker, it's heaven sent; if you want it to run reliably like a toaster....shelve it or sell it. Otherwise, you'll pop your carotid artery!
Me, I love it.
Anyone want to buy a nice Vision Line CC2?
