How best to anchor Caboose Industries Ground Throws

For sure use a pilot hole in the ties for any screws.  Yes, the tiny brads are a joke, throw them away.

I use what I believe are old Atlas HO track screws for my switch stands, but a good hardware store will have long tiny screws. And yes, drill pilot holes.

Timely topic, I just ordered a dozen of these for my yard switches.

Thanks for the guidance. I’ll have to check my hardware store for the Tiny screws. And find a slightly more tiny drill bit for the pilot holes too. Wow !!!  I’ll have to dig out my magnifying goggles to do this. 😳

My screws appear to be #1 x 1/4" (or maybe even #0). Definitely do not use the brads. I can attest from experience that the throw will pop off the turnout using the nails.

Almost all of mine are done with 1/2 inch brads, and I have none pop out.    I have a few with screws.

I have had luck with the little spikes they include with the throws.  I only have 4 of the throws, but work for me.  A pain to get into the ties.

I’ve always used Atlas HO track nails similar to the 1/2 “ brads that prrjim uses. Never had a problem and does not split the tie.

I'll be using them #1 screws, I don't trust brads to hold them.

I always used the little spikes that come in the package or the Ross track spikes.. You put them in to solid, it can really mess thinks up when you derail into the throws.  Make sure all your equipment clears, Atlas Zepher cars will take them out with some car detail..

Note:  The 208S throw has a spring loaded connection to the switch point rod of the turnout.  IMO, a slightly better product. IMO.

Micro-Fasteners has #1 screws which will work - at least I hope so as I plan on ordering them.  I have their #0 screws for attaching power to my track.

I just used small screws I got at the local Ace. No issues.

When I had a couple in service, I used those slightly long O scale track spikes; never a problem.

Would like to get these blackened screws. I search and get results for “the perfect this or that”. Is Perfect a brand ?  I can’t get any good results. A hobby supply store ???  These tiny screws are Difficult to find !!!😳

I picked up some #1 x 1/4" screws from McMaster Carr, I'm sure they'll do fine.
