The wire from the light’s socket to the truck is rotted and needs replaced. I can’t figure how the reflector/socket assembly is removed from the outer shell. I don’t want to melt anything by leaving it in place, or break anything by forcing it out (unless that is the procedure). No luck searching the web.

No further disassembly is needed. You just push the wire "into" the light housing from the back. Out the lens side, the wire and fiber disc will come out. Install your new Lionel 61-22 lamp lead by running the stripped wire end back through as in the reverse of the removal.
