So I came on this forum a couple weeks ago to see how to wire the new MTH crossing gates in O scale. I got a lot of advice that was greatly appreciated. but noone gave me enough info or the right info. This is to complex to try and remember.
So here is the way I wired mine using radio shack parts and the track block switch and track power.
Remember to insulate the cut rails to prevent arcing.
You can connect the ground to any section of common or outside rail. Whatevers convenient.
I don't do underneath the layout. I hide stuff in bushes or rock formations.or in a biulding
After you hook up the first set and its working good then you can wire the second set. I use heat shrink.

Here is some basic electric related to the MTH crossing gates, Isolated rail input.
I used this relay board, no longer available.

Note:
(1.)  Relay board power top, Brown and Red wire.
(2.)  Isolate rail input,  Green wire.
(3.)  Common Blue
(4.)  NO Normally Open Yellow.
(5.)  NC Normally Closed White

(6.)   Gate power, Black and Red  .  In this picture hooked to the rail.  Black outside rail common and Red center rail power.

The remaining three wires are Common (Blue), Normally Open (Yellow), and Normally Close (White), to be powered via the relay.
(7.) Blue and Yellow,  Gate goes down and stays down.  Thumb and forefinger are holding the blue and yellow wires together.

(8.) Blue and White,/ Gate goes up and stays up.  Thumb and forefinger are holding the blue and white wires together.

Basic function of the relay.

Hi Dave - I'm trying to wire the same MTH crossing signals with a Lionel infrared device - is it possible to send me a simple drawing of the wiring schematic you used???
With much appreciation -
Paul
