Hi all.   With all the current apps for both Lionel and MTH on the market, and in anticipation of more coming, I recently installed an iPad Mini on the layout.

Here are a few pictures…

The iPad can be rotated to better display the app that is currently being used.  I got the mount on Amazon.

Works very well and gives me an alternative to using the phone for the layout apps plus I can still use my remotes to run the trains.   I’m thinking of installing additional iPads around the layout for visitors and also for things such as turntable control, switch machines and accessory control.

I installed my mount a while ago. I use the phone when running one engine and with the universal remote for 2 or 3 engines. I even took a screenshot of the Cab 3 app and cropped it on the phone as a background image in anticipation of the real thing. I would rather use the iPad mini but because it’s such an older version I find the engines loose the Bluetooth connection at times. I have a latest iPad Air but it’s to heavy if I want to walk around the layout with it.
