318motor

I just purchased a nice original prewar Lionel Standard Gauge 318E passenger set. The engine has a Bild-A-Loco motor. Is this correct? I have Bild-A-Loco motors in some of my steam engines but my other electric engines (8, 10, 380) have the Super Motor motors.

If it is correct, what years were the Bild A Loco motors used? Are they better than the typical motors found in these? Do they use the same wheels and gear sets? This engine will need wheel replacement ASAP.

Thanks in advance.

I'm looking for some information on a Lionel 318 I saw today.  It was in a set box that SEEMED to be marked 342 or 342T.  I can't find that as a reference anywhere.  The set had the 318, 2 passenger cars, and 2 freight cars.  Did Lionel ever produce a set that way or was this just a jumble of items thrown in an old set box?

The 342 number refers to a 318 and 3 passenger cars set. Made for 10 years in various configurations, it was a popular set. The 342 set box design MAY have been used for other sets.  The 342 on the label is indicative of what's in the box.  342T and 342B are part numbers for the box itself. Lionel did not mix freight and passenger too much... i can think of one or two sets...maybe.  Never in Standard gauge.
