I recently picked up a Lionel MPC GP7 at a train show that the previous owner attempted to spray paint and failed horribly. I’ve seen some people use easy off oven cleaner to strip paint on diecast steam engine shells, and they claim that it is safe for some plastics, so I’m just looking for some clarification to see if it won’t melt the plastic diesel bodies if it will melt the plastic what should I use to strip off the old paint? Thanks.

I've tried the EZ Off and it did not work for me. The only thing I have been able to get to consistently work well that is environmentally safe is 91% Isopropyl alcohol. It's expensive now in this post COVID environment ($4 vs .99) but it still works well.
I agree with Ron. but be carful it is flammable and the flame can be hard to see!
I have had success with this product.
No fumes or odor. Even removed krylon. Did not harm plastic.
Only stripper I use now is "DAWN" dishwashing detergent, just let it soak overnight and the paint washes off. Works repeatedly and then, it washes the car, patio furniture, etc,..

Some more details please. Straight up or mix with water? What is the soap to water ratio?
