I’m sorry. But to me, plastic passenger cars are just wrong.

Depending on what type of car? After the war most heavyweight designed model RR cars were made of plastic from Lionel's Madison cars to American Standard Passenger car kits.  Only metal heavyweights were old prewar Walthers kits and Brass imported cars.

Now if you are talking Streamlined passenger cars, then yes extrude aluminum is preferred.

Yes, I am a streamlined passenger cars only person (Santa Fe and Union Pacific) and probably should have made that clear.
