Would anyone know the product number of the K-Line operating milk car ?
Does it operate the same way the W by B operating cars work, i.e. without the need for a remote section of track ?

I love the K-Line Milk Cars, they are so smooth.
Might check Nicholas Smith. I know a few years ago they had some in their Toy Store (not the train store). Check with Joey, he would be able to tell you if any are left.

Just search on milk and there are about 3 operating milk cars

Are you sure, Dan? Wouldn't you miss the "contestant factor" as my grandson calls it, where you can have a contest to see who can sling as many cans in 5 seconds, as far as possible?
Not familiar with these but took a look at some of the links.
So correct me if I'm wrong, but you do need a UCS or some similar operating track for these (see Dan's question in first post).
They can be operated by either a Kline remote which means you can operate it anywhere on track or by an uncoupling section. It uses magnetism to trigger it

A remote would be an odd operation, especially if your grandson decided that the milk cans needed to be distributed all along the ROW! A simple UCS track seems simpler and cheaper.
I have three of the Williams by Bachmann operating cars. I believe they were originally K-Line products that Bachmann released a few years ago. Correct me if I am wrong. I find the freedom from having to use UCS or OCS tracks a large relief.
