There was just one on ebay that sat for a while with a very reasonable buy it now price (Item # 272116833501). I was thinking of grabbing it but let it go.

one thing I have learned from the auction site,,,,,there will another at some point,,,thanks for the info tho,moderneraSG,,do you know if franks roundhouse had a color catalogue of the ones they custom painted back in like 88/89,,,,,,,,i have the pink set,and the blue cars,passed on the loco,they also did a red/black set I believe,thanks

Huge fan of the 1835E.  I got lucky with this guy.  The seller said it would slow down in curves, so I got him to take some dough off it and got it for a good price.  I put it on the track on a curve and the the back drive wheels were tight with no play, so I put a vise on them and turned it just a touch, ever so slightly, and it worked like a charm.  My first successful 'repair'. I got a long way to go.  He's a strong puller, I had ten 500s behind him, but I don't like to do that for long.  Six cars are enough for a handsome ninety year old road hog.  I had a tender with a good whistle so I'm real happy with my 1835E situation right now.  I also have some pretty decent blue baby states he can pull when he wants to go highbrow.  That was a set the 1835E was sold with.  I like the simplicity of the mostly black body and piping.  The white flags actually kind of wave around the turns.  To me an 1835 has to be black.  I know it is personal preference, but the thought of a pink one makes me want to gack, but that's just me I guess.  I'll throw in one of my short, bad videos for fun.  The 500s are all recent additions except for the caboose.  Only one is a repaint, and I'm sure many of you guys can spot it right away.  The 1835E is a favorite of mine. Franks Roundhouse did do the 385 in different colors. Here is what they offered (Keep in mind some of these may be stock configurations). Here is the list:

Black w/brass trim

Black w/nickel trim

Crackle Black w/brass trim

Crackle Black w/nickel trim

Blue w/brass trim

Blue w/nickel trim

Grey w/nickel trim

Red w/nickel trim

Red & Black w/nickel trim

Franks Roundhouse also did the 390, 392 and the 384 in different color variations as well as the 300 series passenger cars and the Lionel/Ives transition passenger cars in various color combinations.

   Real nice pick up, looks like there are a few Conventional Tin Plate Trains being resold right now, even on the OGR, I also like the PS, prefer the P2 Tin Plate myself.  If I was an NY guy, I would jump on the Conventional NYC 260 Set with the extra cars, beautiful set!

Regarding the Frank's Round House custom jobs - were these newly manufactured repros, or custom paint jobs on restored originals?

These trains were made from extra parts and leftover LCI Lionel Classics stock. When Mike split from Lionel after the Lionel Classics era, there was left over stock. Most was sold at a discount price thru retailers, but some were repainted by Frank Rash (Franks's Roundhouse).

My 1835E pulling some baby blues.  There are few things better in my world than a ninety year old engine that runs like a finely tuned Cadillac. (Not a Swiss watch! - this is American made with pride!). My freight yard is full, and this railroad isn't earning it's keep unless they are hauling freight.  These passenger runs are fun, but they don't pay the bills.  Even a lazy man running a railroad from his lazyboy can see the advantages of one line for freight runs and another for passenger service. Need more track!  Cheers.
