I have 2 Lionmaster Challengers with legacy  - the model before the current whistle steam version.

They smoke great but when stationary the smoke shuts off - I recently read in a thread that with Legacy there should be a reduced flow of smoke at a standstill? Did I get that right?

Can anyone enlighten me on this please? - is it only some legacy smoke units? - do mine have a problem?

I would mention I also have a whistle steam legacy Lionmaster Big Boy that does indeed smoke at reduced levels when stationary?

I am also running only TMCC.

Thanks MIKE

"Looks like a job for the Super-Chuffer. "

John, does your Super-Chuffer work on older Legacy engines too? I looked up the description on the Henning's website and it says it's for TMCC engines. I also have an older Lionmaster Legacy Challenger and would really like to have the low volume smoke when the engine is stopped. If it would work, does your Super-Chuffer board replace an existing board in the engine?  Thanks!

It was designed for TMCC installations.  However, since it's function is to control the fan based on the chuff input, there's no reason that function wouldn't work the same on a Legacy locomotive.  You wouldn't replace any boards, just add the Super-Chuffer.  If you don't have Rule-17 lighting already, you could add that with the Super-Chuffer as well.  The same for cab light control, though I thought most Legacy already had cab light control.

Thanks for your reply! So does your Super Chuffer also come with installation instructions then? I'm assuming so but wanted to make sure.

John,

Have an early scale Lionel TMCC steamer with the baffling "1 chuff" puffer mechanism. Do we need to wait for the "stripes" piece to hear 4 chuffs?

Sure, and you know where to come to ask questions if there is any doubt.

Thanks John! One more question please, for those legacy engines that did not come with a cab light at all (like the Legacy Lionmaster Challengers), could one be easily added with the Super Chuffer module?

Piece of cake.  I use a 12V incandescent for cab lights, it has a wider light dispersal.  Run a wire from the CAB light control pin on the Super-Chuffer to the lamp, run the other side of the lamp to track power.  The light gets half-wave track power from the Super-Chuffer when you're stopped.

For the Rule-17 headlight if desired, the S-C supports one standard white LED.  You run the existing headlight from the Legacy electronics to the light-in on the S-C and run the LED directly from the light-out pin to ground.  In a departure from typical TMCC/Legacy lighting, the LED output of the S-C is positive in respect to ground.
