Legacy upgrade question

Thank you for posting this topic and the information to download.  I need to do the same thing but have few questions:

1. How does the writable module (6-37125) work with the download from the lionel site?  Does it plug into your computer?  The prongs of the modules seem different from the devices that normally plug into your computer.  
2. I noticed on a picture of this item on ebay Lionel recommends you get one for the base, one for the remote and one for back up....is it necessary to get 3 of these modules for upgrading purposes?

The black module 6-37125 plugs into the Legacy base.  You really only need one.  Use the one to upgrade the base, then use the same one to upgrade the Cab-2.  You also need the Legacy Support software from the Lionel site to connect with the serial cable from your computer to the Legacy base.  Instructions are in the manual.

It doesn't sound like plug and play at all, and definitely not user friendly.

Paul, you mentioned a serial cable. There is an unused serial cable in Legacy cable bundle. Would this be the connection to your computer?

I think that will work. Just use the Legacy Base end at the Legacy base and the Serial Comm end to the computer. The Command Base end just leave unconnected.

I thought you could use the wifi module for back ups?  I that is true how do you do it?

I use the LCS WiFi unit instead of the wired serial port.

I set the LCS WiFi switch to "Join To Network" which seems to work best by joining to the house WiFi. My desktop is connected with an Ethernet cable, but also has WiFi which joins to the house WiFi.

I have tried the Access Point option, but connect quicker with the WiFi to the desktop.
