Let’s see your auto/truck garages

I remember when Sunoco 260 was $0.25 a gallon and I was so broke in college I once had to stop for gas on the MassPike and got $0.35 worth of gas in order to be able to make it home.

Richie, I remember putting in $.50 (big spender!) in gas, circa 1969, because  that was all the money I had.  I was driving a 59 Pontiac convertible with a 389 V8 at the time, so that $.50 didn’t get me too far!

First area that saw scenery. I built the Gas Station before the layout was constructed. It was a kit by Evergreen. No laser cutting back then. Scene is almost 35 years old. I must have spent on small fortune in metal detail castings and clutter.

I’m not sure who made this kit when I bought it. It shows up now on the Bar Mills site. I just recently added interior lighting. The doors are going to be left open and there will be plenty of clutter inside. Signs on the walls. Still have some scenic elements to add. I worked in a real working garage my whole life. So I have a lot of ideas on what to do.

When all the town mechanic can afford is an abandoned refrigerator car and a cutting torch!

What an incredibly original idea for the re-purposing of leftover pieces.

Gas Prices??  When I arrived at my first USAF assignment, at Wright Patterson AFB, Dayton Ohio, in Feb. 1970 "gas war" prices were 20 cents / gallon or 5 gal / 1$ !  Good thing too, wife and I had one car...a 9 passenger Ford Country Squire Wagon with a 428 cu. in. Lincoln engine...it got 13 mpg and that was cruising on the highway!.

Hah !  Mine was circa 1970 and I was driving a '66 Fairlane GT convertible with a 390 in it that guzzled gas like it was going out of style. I only had a quarter on me, but was lucky enough to find a dime under the seats. The gas station attendant (yes, they had them in those days) wasn't happy about only having to put $0.35 in. Wish I still had that car in my garage.
