Last week I received my new B&O Lion Chief Plus A5 Switcher. Beautiful little locomotive, but after a day it lost all sounds. I had purchased it from a great dealer, who immediately swapped it out for another.  Tonight I had the new one out of the box and on the rails, and noted some sound hesitancy, even drop outs, on 031 curves. That did not happen on 042 curves. Manual says 036 is the minimum, and I guess it means what it says. Could the sharper curves be pulling the tether out of the socket just enough to give the sound hesitancy?

I guess I can limit it to 042 and above, but then it can't go in the smaller yards, where 031 and 027 are located.

Can other owners share their experience?

Also, what is that knurled metal rod packed with the locomotive? See photo......

The tool is to change the traction tires/get the rods off.

I have the A5 from a few years ago. Lionel made them conventional locos, with no command but Legacy Railsounds, smoke, wireless IR drawbar, diecast loco and tender, etc before putting LC in them. I think it was made circa 2014/2015. Excellent quality except for some rust on the rollers and drawbar screw (I'll fix it when I get to it).

Granted my engine has the wireless IR tether, there is no reason it shouldn't go around 027. I run mine on 027 all the time with no issues. Maybe trying opening the tender to see if the tether can be pulled out a bit more or at least more slack in the cable?

I think it is an excellent engine. Only complaint is lack of volume control. Some tape over the speaker solved that problem!
